Domestic Violence

Parvatiya Mahila Vikas Trust Himachal Pradesh

Violence often begins at home and leaves a deep mark on society. Violence against women is one such example of this. Women were historically and socially tied to many roots, keeping them away from education, land, personal decision, expression and equality. Burning alive, giving birth to children against one’s will, keeping away from education, caste gender violence, physical labor and mind control are some such examples which force us to think why it is necessary for the women’s class to be organized. When women shared among themselves, many types of violence related to mental, physical, vaginal and emotional aspects started coming out. With this thinking, the platform is working on domestic violence in various ways, which starts with the woman herself. Using different mediums like counselling, legal help, social services, awareness and membership, research etc. efforts are made to help the victimized woman get relief from violence and move back towards a dignified life for herself.

“An atmosphere of love and support should be created for the exploited women in the village, when they face any kind of violence, the community should be ready to stand with them. There will be awareness of this, and the walls of the house and the neighbourhood will come closer, then we can try to live a violence-free life. There should be 3-4 women leaders in the village to whom the victims of violence can reach and take courage."
